star

my crazy thoughts
      a summer day

sun

high and
           hazed

bleached

the way the water is the same white as the sky
as you dip your toes into imaginary clouds

knowing
a monster is curled
beneath the drug sculpture

in the peopled cities      you look away
unnoticeably

your laughter
a five-pointed star
bouncing back to its
own
center

you always used cloth bandages
so you could iron them slow
humming to your headphones
as you pressed them slowly into perfection

we are the same colour blue, carefully folding
desires

the private lie

and even though we promised to be through
she can’t let go of you
